Slovak Rectors' Conference´s Presidium rejects the military attack on Ukraine and joins together with Slovak universities in expressing support for Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity and solidarity with its people. We call on university leaders to take concrete steps to help academics at risk to continue their studies and work. We call on the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic to be responsive and supportive to specific proposals for assistance submitted by our universities.
President of the Slovak Rectors' Conference Dr. h. c. prof. Ing. Rudolf Kropil, PhD. spoke this morning with the Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic and with rectors of universities in eastern Slovakia, where several thousand foreign students are studying, about important steps to support and assist Ukrainian students and academics as well as other students and academics at risk.
The SRC´s Presidium joins the peace call and rejects violence and brute force as a means of resolving conflicts. At the same time, we emphasize the need to support critical thinking in Slovak society and the role of universities, their employees and students to oppose the spread of political propaganda, misinformation and alternative facts, but also extremism.
